Project Description:
For our project, we had to build a boat made of 18 sq. yards of sheet or plastic, 20 pieces of 7 ft. x 1" x 1 3/4" wood lathing and cardboard. The core was divided into 6 different groups. The physical requirements for the building project were that the boat dimensions had to match those that were mentioned in the Life of Pi book, a rudder and two visible oars had to be created, the name of the ship had to be on the boat, it had to fit 32 people, and each group had to add five additional items that made the project look more like a boat. We were given basic building tools such as saws, staples and staple guns, (sledge) hammers, drills and bits, nails, screws, etc. Any groups could bring in extra materials from home in order to make their boat more realistic. For our boat, we brought in rope, buoys, life jackets, a tarp, and we included a shark fin made out of cardboard and gray spray paint.
